This January transfer window is always a time of feverish rumour and possible major moves. Several notable footballers are being connected to transfers out of their current clubs. Here is a look at a selection of the major names who might be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the AFCON, which has left the player available, reports suggest a major transfer is close. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract with a £65 million buy-out clause applicable for a short period in early January. Latest reports indicate Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his services. Former suitors like Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have turned their attention to other targets, leaving clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The England defender has continued to impress for Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. With his deal due to expire in the close season, January is the club's final chance to obtain a fee for their captain. Numerous elite sides, such as City and several European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January exit is considered difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh forward has found starting minutes limited at Tottenham this term. Despite being the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has started only a small number of league games. It is understood the London club is open to a sale for the right valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now just twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there have been rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to take a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

This experienced German goalkeeper is now as third-choice at Barcelona following new coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a winter exit looks increasingly probable. Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading chances of being in the England World Cup. But, arranging a deal presents significant challenges. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages render any agreement difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as interested parties.

The energetic midfielder attracted considerable attention in the summer but remained at Atlético. Having few starting appearances in Spain this season, he may be eager to secure more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been strongly linked, and a return to Selhurst Park, a club he shone on loan, remains a option, although financial demands might prove a stumbling block.

Harvey Elliott

Despite starring and being named player of the tournament at the U21 Euros in the summer, the talented midfielder has struggled for minutes during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the temporary transfer won't become permanent. Due to FIFA regulations regarding representing two clubs in a campaign, a return to his parent club before next season appears to be the sole available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This exciting Turkish attacker is in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his existing deal running down, a host of Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are eager to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to retain one of Europe's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. The teenager is heavily expected to make a major move in January. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at around £22 million.
